Demand and Salaries Increasing for E-commerce-Related Jobs
According to the Robert Half 2005 Technology Salary Guide, 2005 will bring an increase in demand and salaries for a variety of e-commerce related careers, as a result of, among other things, continued investment in Web-based applications that allow business to enhance collaboration, customer service, customization and management; the spread of wireless communication technologies; and the desire to enhance security.
Among the specialties expected to be in strong demand are Internet and intranet development skills. Individuals skilled in Active Server Pages, JavaScript, XML and .Net can look forward to an active hiring environment. Average starting salary for an Internet/intranet developer ranges from $51,750 to $74,250 and strong experience can increase starting salary by as much as 10%.
Another area that is expected to be in high demand is that of pre- and post-sale consultants. Average starting compensation for this position is projected in increase by almost 4% in 2005, to between $53,500 and $78,250, depending on level of experience.
As companies continue to focus on safeguarding their systems from viruses and spam, network security specialists also continue to be in high demand. Individuals who are skilled in supporting wireless and mobile technologies have an additional edge. Network security administrators typically garner a salary in the range of $63,750 to $90,500. Data security analysts offers an even higher range, $68,250 to $93,000.
