How the New York Stock Exchange Operates
This application gives you the chance to learn about how the New York Stock Exchange functions.

     Title: The New York Stock Exchange: How the NYSE Operates

     Navigation: Use http://www.nyse.com/ to visit the New York Stock Exchange. In the left margin in the pop-up menu next to "About the NYSE," click on Education. Along the top, select the tab named Educational Publications. Then under the heading, "The New York Stock Exchange: A Guide to the World’s Leading Securities Market," click on "Chapter Two: The Trading Floor."

Application
Read the chapter; then answer the following questions.

  1. What characteristics distinguish the two types of floor brokers?

  2. List the key functions of a stock exchange specialist. Why is the "Point-of-Sale Display Book" likely to be particularly useful for a specialist?
