Checking Basic Concepts

1. Graph .

  1. Identify any local extrema.

  2. Find any absolute extrema.

  3. Approximate the zeros of f.

2. Make a table of   starting at x=-5, incrementing by 1.

  1. Is f an odd or even function? Graph f in [-9, 9, 1] by [-6, 6, 1] to support your answer.

  2. Find the domain and range of f.

3. Sketch graphs of cubic polynomials with negative leading coefficients or 1, 2, or 3 x-intercepts.

4. Plot the data in the accompanying table.

  1. What minimum degree polynomial function f would be needed to model this data? Explain.

  2. Should function f be odd, even, or neither? Explain.

  3. Should the leading coefficient of f be positive or negative? Explain.

5. Use least-squares regression to find a polynomial that models the data in Exercise 4.
