Does it matter if I am using a PC or a Macintosh? Will I need to do anything to my computer to use this website? I'm using a Macintosh and my browser gives me a message that it is running low on memory. What should I do? Who creates the resources at this website? Is this website meant to replace a textbook? Why do the Flash files load slowly? I see a warning message that reads "A script in this movie is causing Macromedia Flash Player 7 to run slowly. If it continues to run, your computer may become unresponsive. Do you want to abort the script?" |

Try quitting any other applications you have open. If this does not work, try allocating more memory to your browser. To do this, quit your browser and locate the application on your hard disk. Click on it once and select "Get Info" from the "File" menu. In the information dialog box under Memory Requirements, increase the Preferred Size.
All the resources are created by teams of faculty who work closely with Addison Wesleys editorial and production teams to make the material work specifically for the Web environment. See the credits page for the list of contributors.
No. A textbook is a valuable, comprehensive resource for students. In fact, many of our contributors are also textbook authors. At this website we've created learning activities that are designed to take advantage of the Web's interactivity and that act as a valuable supplement to the teaching and learning of core concepts.
Typically, a faster computer will play Flash content faster. A fast connection to the Internet will enable Flash content to be downloaded to your computer more quickly. For best performance, close all other applications other than your Web browser while viewing Flash content. Also, increase the amount of cache allocated to your browser to 30 MB. Macintosh users should increase the amount of system memory allocated to the Web browser to at least 60 MB. If you encounter performance problems while running simulations please use only one browser window to work with simulations at a time, close the other windows with simulations.
I see a warning message that reads "A script in this movie is causing Macromedia Flash Player 7 to run slowly. If it continues to run, your computer may become unresponsive. Do you want to abort the script?"
Please click the "No" button. In most cases the simulation will work fine.
