|
All the electronic resources have been optimized for the most common computer tools. You will need internet access, a Java-ready web browser (e.g. Safari for Macintosh or Internet Explorer for Windows), a PDF file reader (e.g. Adobe Acrobat Reader), a spreadsheet program (e.g. Excel). There are a few databases that require the use of Netscape which is also a free program. You'll find everything you need to optimize your computer for use of this web site in Site Requirements, including system requirements. Updating your Web browser and loading plug-ins will allow you to view animations and complete the activities. |
| Does it matter if I am using a PC or a Macintosh? |
No. The authors have verified that their resources work on both platforms. This web site can be used from any computer with a connection to the Internet and browser software such as Safari, Netscape Communicator, or Internet Explorer. We recommend high speed connection when possible due to the large file size and image-rich content. Dial up modem connections will work, but they will be slow. |
| Who creates the resources at this web site? | All the resources were created by the authors, Campbell and Heyer. The resources are tightly integrated into the pedagogy and enhance the value of the printed book. |
| Is this web site meant to replace a textbook? |
No, the web site enriches the book. Many of the web resources can be used for other courses but the book provides the context and the rationale for using these resources. The web resources connect students to the same databases used by genomics research scientists. We've created learning activities that are designed to take advantage of the web's interactivity and that act as a valuable supplement to the teaching and learning of core concepts. The site also offers bonus materials for faculty who adopt the book for class use. |

The website has two parts. The largest part is publicly available and no subscription is required <aw-bc.com/genomics>. The second part is freely available only to faculty who adopt the book for class use. This part provides bonus materials for in depth exploration or testing purposes.
